The Community Ministry Teams seek to provide opportunities for members to engage in activities with the purpose of helping people in need. These activities included North Fulton Community charities and North Central Georgia Affiliate of the Habitat for Humanity as well as Lutheran World Relief. We try to provide opportunities to serve that fit into members’ time, talent, and financial abilities. Whenever a call is made, our member response was overwhelming! Some of the activities include:
Group: Bread Runners
Contact: John Manstrom
Our Bread Runners pick up bakery items from two Publix stores and deliver them to Redeemer’s Soup Kitchen every Monday and also take extra bread to North Fulton Community Charities on an intermittent basis. Currently we have six drivers that go downtown and one that stays local. If you have a Monday morning or Tuesday morning free once every other month and would like to serve, we could use a few more volunteers.
Group: Angel Tree

Each year at Christmas, we provide gifts for children whose names were provided by the prison chaplains with the Prison Ministry Program. These children receive both a clothing item and a toy or fun item labeled from their parent who is in prison. In addition, we also purchase gifts and deliver to the North Fulton Community Charities.
Group: Atlanta Hunger Walk
Contact: Jeanne Wieckert
Our church continues to be one of the top fund raising churches among the 57 Lutheran Churches walking in the event. These funds are used by the Atlanta Community Food Bank and Lutheran Services of Georgia.
Group: Family Haven Women's Shelter
Contact: Jeanne Wieckert
Family Haven provides emergency shelter, crisis intervention and comprehensive support services for victims of domestic violence. Household items, clothing and toys that are brought to church are taken to the Family Haven Thrift Store on an on-going basis to provide support to the local shelter. We collect the items at the bottom of the stairway downstairs.
Group: Habitat for Humanity
Contact: Jeanne Wieckert
Through a cooperative effort of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, the Lutheran Coalition for Habitat for Humanity and the North Central Georgia and Cobb County Habitat for Humanity Affiliates, we build at least one home yearly. We work on homes and provide meals for the workers. We will start up again in February 2010.
Group: Lutheran World Relief
Contact: Jeanne Wieckert
Lutheran World Relief works to help people grow food, improve health, strengthen communities, end conflict, build livelihoods and recover from disasters. We support the world-wide relief efforts of our larger church body through publicity efforts, monetary donations and the Free Trade Coffee and Handicraft Sales.
Group: Lutheran Services of Georgia
Contact: Gerry Bergstrom
We have supported Lutheran Services of Georgia (LSG) through the annual Golf Tournament, Lutheran Night at the Braves and Lutheran Night at the Gladiators. We also donate items to refugee resettlement programs and local disaster response teams.
Group: North Fulton Community Charities
Contact: Stephanie Ludtke
The food collection cart for NFCC has a permanent place in the Fellowship hall and is delivered on a weekly basis to North Fulton Community Charities. Financial donations may also be made to assist families for utilities, rent and other emergency items. NFCC accepts donations on-line at www.nfcchelp.org.
Group: Food Kitchen Volunteers
Contact: tbd
We are a part of a mission to field a team of congregants to work at the Redeemer Lutheran Community Food Kitchen in downtown Atlanta. On the first Tuesday of each month, we send one of two teams to Redeemer and fulfill that mission. We also have drivers to up bread on an occasional Monday to deliver.
